So here we are, folks. It’s time to begin my apartment redecorating project. Let’s start in the kitchen. My kitchen is changing least in my apartment makeover, so there will be no before & after posts about it.
Kitchen-wise, what matters most to me is being able to properly bake and maybe even more importantly, make as many amazing cups of coffee my heart desires. Part of my budgeting strategy has been to make my morning java at home and bake weekly (healthier options, I’ll share recipes soon), thus saving from overspending on caffeine and sweet treats. Therefore, as I prepare for my apartment makeover, I figured this would be a good time to share my absolute favorite coffee and baking appliances with you, along with why I love them.
French Press: Okay coffee lovers, we’ll start here because don’t we all start our day with coffee anyway? Thought so. I’ll be honest: I used to not care about different ways of brewing coffee until I really started to make it and drink it at home (vs. on the go). Then, when I heard about the French Press, it sounded so fancy and overwhelming. Truth is, it’s not. It’s super easy and if you love coffee, it’s an actual kitchen game changer. I’ll break it down for you:
- If you use a French Press, you’re basically making the freshest coffee of your life because you’re grinding the coffee beans right before you use them.
- Most French Presses allow you to make at least 6 cups of coffee in one shot. If you don’t need six in the morning (not judging either way), you can throw it in the fridge and ice it for later.
- Once your water is boiled (I recommend this electric tea pot), you only need four minutes to brew your coffee.
See any downsides? Nope, didn’t think so. For more specific, step-by-step French Press usage directions, visit Atlas Coffee Club’s blog and read this post. It’s animated. But since we’re talking about what to actually have in your kitchen, I should give you a rec. I really love this French Press: it’s cute, compact and affordable.
Milk Frother: What if you want a latte? That’s all I’m saying. Or better yet, what if your friend wants a latte. Look at you pulling out your frother and getting all Barista on her. Heads will roll.
Hand Mixer: I love this little baby. You can do everything from mixing cookie dough to mashing potatoes with this. It’s small and easy to clean and store, and doesn’t break the bank. Definitely a kitchen must-have.
KitchenAid Stand-Up Mixer: the Golden Child of the list. I would give my left arm for a KitchenAid mixer, but then I’d have a tough time baking, so instead it’ll stay on the wish list for another year. I also don’t really have space for this right now, if we’re being totally honest. If you like to bake at all, I bet you’ve also dreamed of owning one of these mixers. The different attachments make baking various recipes a breeze (I imagine), and it makes you look so cool and professional whilst covered in flour and egg (dreams, right?). Anyway, I’d love to own the white one – most of my kitchen stuff is white or white-based (goes with everything and easy to grow collections!). So, yeah, the mixer. One day.
Psst – don’t get me wrong, I’m still obsessed with cafes and bakeries, but only going to them sporadically and socially makes them a lot more special.
