Dudes. Having a healthy workout routine is freaking difficult in Manhattan. Let’s list why:
- It’s expensive
- It’s overwhelming
Seriously. With all the options for fitness boutiques, gyms and new trends popping up every five minutes, I was drowning – and not ’cause I was swimming laps. I needed to give myself a legitimate routine for a daily sweat sesh so I could stick to my mostly-healthy-but-never-giving-up-lattes-and-baked goods diet. That’s why I joined Equinox. Don’t gape – I know the membership price is steep. Ugh. Here’s another quick list, this time about t why I made this decision:
- There’s lots of classes included – both familiar and new – to try out all day, every day.
- Now exercise is a fixed expense, and because of the price, I feel obligated to go almost daily.
- Lots of pretty, committed people around my age are members, which in a sick way, it’s kind of like free motivation to work my bum harder.
- Believe it or not, I genuinely love exercise.
Q: There’s other (cheaper) gyms. Why EQX?
A: Equinox is most conveniently located to both my office and apartment (haayyy E. 92nd St.!). In total, I think there are five convenient clubs in walking distance to my life. That means five different options for classes and treadmills, aka no reason not to go.
Q: Is it worth the price?
A: To me, yes. Aside from the geographic conveniences, Equinox is super clean and the staff is overly knowledgeable and friendly. Even without using the “gym,” it’s worth it for me because I get a variety of fitness classes for less than what boutique studios charge for one type of workout. Let’s also subtly mention the locker rooms are chock full of Kiehl’s products.
Q: What about cardio?
A: I run in Central Park! But sometimes I appreciate a good treadmill run, or even a spin class.
Q: How do you resist all the boutique studios if you love classes so much?
A: I don’t. Well, my bff is an EQX member too, so she and I take lots of classes together during the week. But I also know there are branded workouts that I love. I’ve signed up for their newsletters, and when they have a deal or discount offer, I treat myself! Those include Broadway Dance Center, 305 Fitness, Y7 and Rumble.
Q: How are you not jacked?
A: Excellent question. Maybe it has something to do with my mostly-healthy-but-never-giving-up-lattes-and-baked goods diet. 🙂
