You may have noticed my Outfit Diary is not as consistent as I promised for it to be. In fact, it’s kind of nonexistent if we’re being totally honest. I’m sorry about that, and am working on reinstating. In the meantime, what you haven’t seen (sorry again) is my shift in work clothing.
Many days of the week, I genuinely look like I stepped out of a J. Crew styling shoot (see above, it’s Casual Friday). It’s my favorite brand for look and comfort, but in my new work position, it doesn’t feel right. I feel like I should be looking more Banana Republic and less J. Crew, but I’m not really a full-time Banana girl. My mom and I have gone shopping to begin incorporating more “work” pieces into my wardrobe. As I consider what to buy, I don’t want my professional look to become stiff and stuffy. I want feminine and comfortable.
So, even though a majority of my time is spent at the office, I don’t want all of my shopping money to go toward work clothing. Here are some examples of what we decided are staples, to be woven into my wardrobe over time (and worn outside of the office, too!).
*Accessories like bags, and often even shoes, are things I enjoy investing in because they last a long time and shouldn’t develop too much wear and tear.
**My mom decided the secret to a successful work wardrobe is the shoes. A block heel or pump can dress dark jeans, blouse and statement earrings up! Once you’ve got the clothing staples, don’t be afraid to play around with shoe choices.
