‘Morning, sunshines! I’m gonna drop some food knowledge on you at this bright hour:
Skipping breakfast should really be outlawed. We are literally breaking our fast, so why starve ourselves more? We’re also unfortunately in a time where people’s calorie intake is far beyond their nutritional intake. Our bodies are literally BEGGING for nutrients. Calories are not equal to nutrients!! Even if you’re eating less, if you aren’t eating nutrient dense food, your body is starving. Being nutrition depleted can lead to weight gain, bloating, irritation and mood swings, over eating, fatigue… should I go on? … but if we choose to start our day A) with my fave thing in the world hot water with lemon (jumpstarting our metabolisms) and then B) a breakfast that can feed our body internally and mentally, our day will turn out so much more productive than if we choose to never actually break our fast. – Daniela Sorentino, IIN Health Coach*
That being said, below you’ll find my favorite breakfast recipe:
Overnight Oats with Nut Butter
1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
3/4 tbsp chia seeds
2 tbsp natural, unsalted peanut or almond butter (I use Justin’s peanut butter)
1 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 cup of rolled oats
Seeds and/or nuts
Combine all ingredients in a bowl or jar the night before you plan on enjoying.
Coat all oats in almond milk before covering.
Cover the creation and refrigerate overnight.
Wake up, top how ever you may, and enjoy!
