Location: New York City
Ohmygosh guys guess what?! As of today, August 17, 2016, I have been living and working in New York City for a whole year! Time seriously flies. Now that I’ve been in New York for a full year, I’ve realized that when I reference last year’s events and memories, I’m pulling from my NYC life…Boston’s further in the past now. This is strange because it still feels like yesterday that I called that beautifully quaint city home. As with any life adjustment, it takes time to settle in and feel at ease in your new life. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows, and sometimes it’s easy to wonder why you shook your life up in the first place. But then, you reach that moment where all of a sudden…you’re home.
So far, the city of New York has been pretty good to me…
I broke a Guinness World Record with my PMT Dance Family for the World’s Largest Choreographed Street Dance [253 dancers, 5 minutes of non-stop dance on the Today Show]
Watch it here!
And became a Junior Advisory Board member for an incredible nonprofit organization, the Pajama Program.
You may recognize the name of this organization because I went to their 15th Anniversary gala and wrote about it. We’ve got some really fun events coming up – look out!
I’ve gotten familiar with the Upper East Side as my ‘hood, and have a basic familiarity with other neighborhoods, what they offer and how to access them.
And of course, I’ve gotten to spend a great amount of time with my family, both planned and spontaneously. It stinks that some of my best friends are in Boston, but I do still see them regularly, and I’ve reconnected and grown other friendships from my childhood, high school and college by being here in New York.
Lastly, this blog! It’s up and running and it makes me really happy.
So yeah! Year One in New York City. These small victories are huge in the grand scheme of settling into my new life. I think I’m gonna stay put a while, see what else this concrete jungle has to offer.
