Location: Rockefeller Center
I originally shared the contents of my work bag with you a year or so ago. Couple of things though: 1. I got rid of that Tory bag (too slouchy) and 2. Having one set bag is not practical for me. There are two types of workdays in my life, and each requires a different bag.
The Work-and-Come-Straight-Home Days
Self-explanitory. I guess on these days I can really get away with just a clutch, but that feels so weird. Instead, I use my Kate Spade Cameron Street Maise. It holds all of my necessities and never gets too heavy.
Chapstick: I always have one! I even keep one at work. In my bag now is the Aquaphor balm, and it’s one of my go-to’s as the weather cools down.
Lip Color: I want to be the girl with the signature lip color! Of course, my favorite Dior lipstick was discontinued. I’ve got two tubes on standby, but I also don’t wear it every day. The Aquaphor makes my lips a pretty color too, so the extra shine is enough sometimes.
ID/Subway Card: The important things! Sometimes I forget my work ID and the security guards give me a jokingly hard time. I like to avoid those days as much as possible.
Keys: Every day as I get off the subway, I convince myself I forgot my keys somewhere. Why? I don’t know. I always have them. PS – my key chain is old Kate Spade.
Sunglasses: I wear these less than most people. Not the biggest sunglasses gal, but also don’t like to be caught without ’em.
Balm: I’ve recently introduced this into my life as a grounding tool against stress and anxiety. So far, I really like it. I’ve got a full update on this and more natural remedies scheduled for later in the month!
Pen: I had a dance director once tell me “you never go anywhere without a pen. If you need one and have to ask, the first impression you’re giving off is that of being unprepared.” I’ve never not had a pen since.
The Live-Out-of-Your-Bag-For-the-Whole-Day Days
And then there are these days. The ones you’ve got to literally set aside time in the morning to pack your bag thoughtfully. These days are longer, and are typically a juggling act. I’m no stranger to long days, but especially now that I’ve been more consistent here and with proofreading manuscripts, I need to be able to bring work with me more often than not. My tote is from Dagne Dover, and I don’t know how I survived without it. It’s got all of the right pockets and is soooo nice to look at.
Notebook: I recently stopped using my paper planner against my own will. The jury is still out on whether or not I like digital planning, but I will say (for now) the fact that it syncs with all my devices, maps and email is definitely helpful. But since I am such a handwriting lover, I keep a notebook with me. I note thoughts, lists, to-do’s, blog ideas, menus…anything that pops into my head.
Book: For the subway, man. Currently reading my 40th out of 40 books in my Good Reads Challenge for 2017!
Manuscript: When I’m proofreading, I like to keep a chapter with me. If you saw the stack of paper that is my work, you’d be like TAKE THAT NOWHERE! Plus, it takes about an hour to get through around 14 pages, so I never need more than a chapter or two while I’m out and about.
Laptop: Not always, but this bag has a special laptop slot. Days I’m not proofreading or when have a writing deadline, the computer comes with.
Coffee Tumbler: One of my favorite pockets of my Classic Tote is that it has a little cup holder in it! Not kidding. I drink my morning coffee at home, but some days are two-cuppers, and considering all the other stuff I’m toting, I totally trust this bag to not spill my coffee.
So that’s me! I also have a drawer at work with a lot of the stuff I need throughout the day, so if you’re wondering about concealer, a toothbrush, emergency umbrella and stuff like that…don’t! I got it covered 🙂
What do you keep in your work bag? Love to know!
